Cone Beam 3D Dental Imaging
Kevin Cook Orthodontics offers the latest 3D technology for our patients and for patients of other doctors who might be referred here. This is iCat® Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) imaging, sometimes called 3D radiographs or X-rays. CBCT gives us the ability to take 3D images of the teeth, jaws, bones, and facial structures at lower costs and with less energy than a typical CT scan used in hospitals.
Although we do not use 3D imaging for every patient, it provides us the opportunity for improved diagnosis for our patients with specific needs. Especially in cases of impacted teeth, dental implants, and surgical treatment, as well as more complex cases. Understandably, you may have questions about exposure to these types of X-rays.
CBCT 3D Imaging Is A Safe Option For Your Family!
Understandably you may have questions about exposure to these types of x-rays. Here are some facts you should know about 3-D imaging. An iCat® CBCT (@8.5 seconds) exposure is about ½ as much as a full series of digital dental images; about 1/5 as much as a full (28) mouth series of standard dental X-rays; and about 1/70 as much as a typical medical CT scan. Another way to put this in perspective, the iCat® CBCT (@8.5 seconds) exposure is only approximately between 2-4 times the exposure someone would receive flying from New York to Los Angeles on a commercial airline.
